Bring the Story Into the Classroom

What does courage look like? How do people learn to create change? What can art do? And how do we know whether something made a difference?

Our free discussion guide uses an award-nominated short excerpt from Episode 6 of Freedom Needs a Soundtrack to open a conversation about courage, freedom, art, and how people create change.

Designed for grades 8–12 and college classrooms, the guide can also be used with other groups. No prior knowledge of Tibet or the Tibetan Freedom Concerts is needed.

The 20–30 minute discussion centers on the stories and reflections of Tibetan activists Ngawang Sangdrol and Lhadon Tethong, along with Deyden Tethong and Erin Potts. Listen to the Clip here.

The guide includes questions for before and after listening, with options for starting with what students heard and going deeper into larger questions about courage, art, change, and what it means to keep working when you may not live to see the outcome.

Invite Us Into the Conversation

Deyden Tethong and Erin Potts are available for classroom and campus conversations connected to Freedom Needs a Soundtrack. These conversations can explore the Tibetan Freedom Concerts, Tibet, art and activism, and how people begin participating in change.
