The Tibetan Freedom Concerts showed what can happen when music brings people together, and ordinary people turn that energy into action. That work continues. Don’t let the story end in your headphones.
Start with what moves you. Take one action. Invite a friend to join you. Action is more powerful, and a lot more fun, with friends.
Students For A Free Tibet works in solidarity with the Tibetan people in their struggle for freedom and independence. As a global, chapter-based network of young activists, SFT campaigns for Tibetans’ right to political freedom through education, grassroots organizing, and nonviolent direct action — and was a key partner during the Tibetan Freedom Concerts, where the first show helped catalyze a surge in new chapters and global growth.
Tibet Action Institute combines the power of digital communication with strategic nonviolent action to advance the Tibetan freedom movement. Tibet Action brings together expert campaigners, strategists, and technologists to develop and implement visionary strategies and innovative training, education, and technology programs, equipping Tibetans with the tools and knowledge to achieve human rights and freedom in Tibet.
Share it with one person who needs the story. Someone who loves music. Someone who cares about Tibet. Someone who feels overwhelmed by the world and could use a reminder that ordinary people have built powerful things before, and can again.
Other Actions:
Change doesn’t come from big moments alone. It grows when ordinary people give a little more, one small act at a time. Start where you are. Take one step. Invite someone to join you.
Feed your local culture. Go to shows. Buy the zine, the record, the print, or the ticket. Support independent artists, local businesses, and community spaces. They help people find each other, and that is often where joy, connection, and lasting change begin.
Support public media. Listen to and support public radio stations like our partner KALW. Public media helps keep independent storytelling, local reporting, music, and community voices on the air. Use a public radio station finder to find one near you.
Write for freedom. Join Amnesty International or another human rights group and write letters for political prisoners and people unjustly detained. It is a simple action that really works: many have been released because ordinary people around the world wrote on their behalf.
Support local organizing. Find groups in your community working on issues you care about and ask what they need. Volunteer, show up, donate, or help spread the word.
Use your civic power. Register to vote, help others register, attend local meetings, and support candidates and policies that protect freedom and human rights.
