Today we celebrate the 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
For more than 60 years, he has led with compassion, courage, and spiritual resistance—guiding Tibetans in exile, defying China’s occupation through nonviolence, and keeping Tibetan culture alive against all odds.
He gave up political power so Tibetans could lead themselves in a democracy. And he’s made it clear: his reincarnation will not be born in Chinese-occupied Tibet.
This is what real leadership looks like.
Want to honor his legacy? Follow Tibetan-led organizations like @tibetaction and @sft_international . Share their work. Raise your voice. Help keep the movement alive.

π€ June 15 - 16, 1996. San Francisco. The first Tibetan Freedom Concert brought 100,000 people together—and the world listened. πΆ
It wasn’t just a concert and it wasn’t a “benefit concert”...It was a message concert that helped to grow a global movement, to inspire a generation of organizers, and to put Tibet and nonviolent activism back into the public discourse. And with an iconic lineup including Björk, De La Soul, Smashing Pumpkins, Yoko Ono, A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, Beck, Biz Markie, Rage Against the Machine, John Lee Hooker, Foo Fighters and many, many more, it was an event that was hard to ignore.
Celebrate with us by sharing this post with your favorite freedom song. Because songs move people, and people move history.
